Dear Bucky and members of the Reunion Committee,
It is with great regret that I will not be attending our "50th" for the class of 1956. I am the 2006 National Chairwoman of the Urban Music Leadership Conference. This is a group from all over the United States of Music Administrators from large urban school disatricts. The conference always take place on the same weekend as the Lowell reunion is planned and as Chairwoman, I must attend this year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Let me give you a brief wrap-up of the past fifty years of Sally Ann Hough Ryan in case you are planning a booklet or bulletin board concerning non-attending graduates. I have been married for forty-eight (48) years to Daniel Ryan who I met on my first day of college at San Francisco State University. We live in San Francisco in the Parkside District. we have five children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. I graduated from SFSU with a BA and majors in both music and elementary education. I also have an MA from State in Educational Administration.
Retirement began last October 2005, when I left the San Francisco Unified School District where I was Supervisor of the Visual and Performing Arts for twenty-two years. Prior to my administrative time I had taught music and performing arts. My husband had been my predecessor in the Arts Department before he became the founding administrator of the School of Arts High School in the SFUSD. Together we spent a total of 35 years in our lifetime work in education. This commitment for both of us still continues in our support of the arts.
Many great memories remain with me concerning the "old Lowell!" My favorite days were spent in the "Band Shacks" on Hayes Street. I still have and treasure my "Shield and Scroll" hat and yearbook from 1956.
My best wishes are sent to all of you for continued health and happiness in all the years to come. I truly am sorry to miss the reunion and know it will be areal success.
Sincerely,
Sally Ann Hough Ryan
